Paper lanterns from China started way back in 230 BC. Chinese traditional beliefs say that paper lanterns can give good luck and long life.
It can be used as a delightful home decoration, as well as for New Year celebrations and parties. It is very common seeing Chinese paper lanterns giving light to shops in many China towns attracting attention.
There are two main kinds of lanterns made from paper. These are the ones we can place on the floor or ground and the ones we can hung. Such lanterns may be used at the entrances of your homes or businesses and also within your living rooms each giving a soft glow of light.
Presently, there are four paper lantern classifications. One is called the Baby’s bottom which is commonly used nowadays and goes perfectly with lights for Christmas. It can also fit well with modern decors.

One which is used and hanged on places outside like restaurants and bars is called the Rolling paper lanterns. These round and middle sized lanterns colored in red are very common compared among the other types. You can observe a lot of such lanterns in many red light areas or districts. Other terms called for rolling paper lanterns are tomato lights and the big red.
Another classification of such lanterns is called the Crystal magic lantern that is made from square or triangular panes making it look like a crystal.
The large ones which can give out more light are called the Buddha’s gastronomy. They can be found outside temples and are used during festivals.
A lot of the complex styles take longer time to make. Frames are usually made from metal or bamboo. Tough kinds of paper are used so that they can last against wind and rain. Easier and simple to do paper lanterns are perfect for personalized home decors. You may consider incorporating this to your home design if you like to have an oriental feel.
