Copper Lanterns

Copper Lanterns are a design strongly influenced by the Victorian era. Whilst the lantern body is always constructed from copper, the brackets are usually made of a different material, either brass or cast aluminum for strength. The copper can be lacquered to prevent tarnishing. Some designs even have the electric cable hidden inside a faux gas pipe—to add extra authenticity. Lanterns are available in different sizes to suit the location. A smaller size of lantern is ideal for confined areas or where there is a possibility that head height or overhang could be an issue.

Although many lanterns of this type are used with electricity, it is possible to have them installed for use with gas instead, and the result is wonderfully authentic as the soft, flickering flame of a copper gas lantern immediately adds a romantic ambiance to any location.

Lanterns can be situated on wall brackets, on gate posts, or matched in size to the height and diameter of a Victorian style lamp post. They can either be used as a low level garden light, or as a lamp situated on top of a gate post. Copper candle lanterns are ideal for placing on tables or garden furniture.

A copper wall lantern looks great when positioned either side of an entrance porch or front door. Rather than your guests being fixed in the harsh glare of bright security lighting, they can enjoy the subtle glow from an antique copper lamp while they wait for you to answer the door. A more unusual style of wall lantern is a double bracket lantern which is suspended from the top. It is very stable design and is ideal for when the lamp position is in an exposed position: for example, above a doorway or gate.

When fitted to the top of a lamp post, lanterns are extremely attractive. Lamp posts are ideal for positioning along driveways or at gated entrances to properties. At night, they are invaluable for providing soft, stylish illumination around the perimeter of any home, whether it is a period property, or a more contemporary residence.

The gate post lantern is a very versatile style option. If your property has a large entrance with security gates, placing lanterns on the gate posts is invaluable for avoiding any nasty collisions when driving into your driveway at night. They also add a great deal of style to any property. In a street of similar properties, it is always preferable if your home stands out from the neighboring houses. Installing an authentic Victorian copper lantern on your gate posts will give your home an instant upgrade and it will immediately resemble a period property of distinctive character and style.

Whilst copper lanterns are usually found in homes and gardens, they can also be used on commercial premises. If you own a restaurant or bar with an old fashioned theme, using authentic lighting will add some style. They are ideal for outside eating or drinking areas—your customers will be able to admire your beautiful lanterns while they enjoy your hospitality.
