As you may have noticed, lighting is one of my passions and I especially like candle light. My home is decorated with lanterns and candles because I like candle light the most. I like the flickering of the candle because it creates a certain romantic setting in your room. It makes your house look nice because the soft accentuating light looks great with my wooden furniture. I do not only like the light they emit but also the warmth, allowing me to lower my thermostat. When I go shopping I am always in danger of buying new lanterns or decorative candle holders because they look so much better than your basic ordinary lighting fixtures. Although I can not buy them all because my place really is not that big, but I can write about them and show some great pictures.
I like to mix the types of candles that I use, some are very small while others are rather large. I use the large ones for lanterns and the smaller ones for a decorative candle holder. I also like to add tea lights because you can use them in so many ways and they are very cheap too. Small table lanterns are proper to accommodate with tea lights or small candles. They are often made out of aluminium, brass, nickel or stainless steel. I like to use natural colors in my home and that is why my preference is to use brass and nickel instead of stainless steel. It does not really make a difference when you light them because you will only see the effect of the flickering light and not the lantern itself, but it does matter when you have to look at it during the day.
Glass is another material that is frequently used for home decor candle holders because you can see the light come through it. With metal you will use cutouts and with glass you use different colors to create a specific lighting effect. I like cutouts more but that is probably just a personal preference.
But using solely cutout candle holders will not produce much light and not everybody is charmed by it. Most people will like rustic designs instead and rustic designs use see through glass and wooden or metal candle holders with an open design. With rustic decorative candle holders it is not about the lighting effect but about the look of the candle holder itself and that is something that is also very important.
My personal favorite decorative candle holders are Moroccan Lanterns. I like them because they are made out of glass and brass and their design has something mystique. In the design different colors of glass are used and if you put a candle in it the light it emits is really amazing. Small Moroccan lanterns can be used to place on your table and they come very cheap. However, if you really want to enjoy 
the light effects Moroccan lanterns can produce than you should actually buy larger lanterns instead or consider to buy a lantern to hang on your ceiling and place a lighting bulb in it. You will not be disappointed and probably be amazed by how they look and bu their light effects.
