Garden fairy lights

Most people think of fairy lights and immediately associate them with Christmas, but in fact fairy lights are also suitable for the outdoors--and Garden Fairy Lights offer a wonderful opportunity to turn your garden into a fabulous sparkling grotto!

There are many manufacturers of solar fairy lights. The lights are fitted on a long chain of cable and are attached to a handy sized garden stake, complete with a solar panel. The LED units are sealed for outdoor use and are completely water tight, thus preventing any possible electric shock issues.

A full day of sunlight is required to charge the unit fully, but the ease of use more than outweighs the possible disadvantage of needing such a long charging time. The lights usually come fitted with an integral daylight sensor so that they automatically switch on at dusk and then revert back to charging once daylight reappears. Once the lights are actually switched ‘on’, the rest is automatic. The solar panel only needs wiping occasionally to remove any residual dirt that might have collected.

Lighting patterns can be changed by way of a button on the control panel. You can choose from static or chasing pattern. It is worth remembering, however, that the lights will last on average 20% longer on a flashing or chasing function. Lights are available with colored bulbs or clear bulbs, depending on your requirements.

If your solar garden fairy lights have been charged with a full day of sunshine, you can expect 6 to 10 hours illumination. It is important to make sure the solar panel faces south and there are no trees or plants blocking the sun’s rays to allow for maximum charging. This type of light is not as bright as the mains electric variety of fairy lights, but they will provide very reliable illumination at night during the summer months.

Fairy garden lights make a wonderfully decorative addition to any garden during the summer. They can transform what might be a very attractive garden during the day, into a sparkling wonderland during the evening. Imagine how beautiful your garden would look with twinkling fairy lights strung through the trees.

For special occasions, for example parties held in the garden during the summer, garden fairy lights offer a superb opportunity to provide extra illumination as well as highlight certain features and foliage. If your garden is large, what better way of illuminating pathways through the trees and bushes than by hanging fairy lights along the way. It creates a magical atmosphere that your guests are sure to appreciate.

Fairy lights are also a wonderful addition for children’s parties. If you decide to hold a party for your kids one summer evening, decorating the garden with strings of colored lights will create a lovely theme, especially for little girls who would be delighted to be invited to a ‘Princess Party’.

For smaller properties, garden fairy lights are a great way of decorating window boxes or patios. For an instant and cheap makeover, string some lights through your tubs and planters!
