Lamp Post Globes: Wired or Solar Lamp posts?

Light can really make a difference in your garden, patio and actually every other spot in the exterior area of your home. There are many ways to light a specific area and one option to consider are lamp posts. Lamp posts emit a lot of light and are an excellent way to light a part of your garden, patio or driveway. There are many different designs available varying from antique Parisian lamp posts to simple lamp post globes. Most lamp posts will work on high voltage but another option to consider is solar lamp posts.

Outdoor High Voltage Lighting

There are different kinds of energy sources to light your bulbs,lamps or LED's. Solar lighting is considered the easiest option but the light that is emitted is not as bright as voltage lighting. If you consider wired lighting than low voltage lighting is the most used option because of several reasons. However, sometimes you still want to use high voltage lighting and installing wired lamp posts may require either solar energy or high voltage lighting.

There are some difficulties to consider before you are going to work with electricity. There are some risks involved in working with electricity so you have to be sure that you know what you are doing. If you don't know exact what to do than leave it to a professional. It may cost you some extra money but you will prevent injury and dangerous situations.

Working with high voltage has some additional requirements which you should know off. You have to check if you will need a permit to install high voltage lighting in your garden. If you want to install a lamp post on front of your house than you probably will need a permit. Another requirement is that the wiring has to be 18 inches beneath the ground and properly isolated from it's surrounding. Consider that water does not work well with electricity so make sure that the isolation is waterproof. Light emitted by high voltage lamp posts is quite bright and it will illuminate a large area of your garden or patio.

Solar lamp posts

Even with lamp posts it is possible to use solar power. Solar powered lamp posts are becoming more and more popular because of their easy installation. Every one who want's to install lamp posts themselves can do this if they buy lamp posts that are solar powered. Off course you have to place the solar collector faced to the sun in order to make it work. You can not compare the light of a solar lamp post with wired lamp posts. The light emitted by solar powered lamp posts is much less of intensity than wired lighting. Another disadvantage is that the batteries will get discharged during the night and the light they emit will dim when time passes.

Types of lamp post lighting

The size, shape and design are the aspects that may differ from lamp to lamp. Some are designed as lamp post globes while others are designed with lanterns. There are designs that only have one light and others that have two or three. What type you like will often be a matter of personal taste. There is no real difference in quality between the two, only in design. However, the advantage of working with lamp post globes is that they are much easier to replace.
