LED step lights are designed to light up steps, either inside or outside. They are a highly efficient recessed option for providing illumination at night time, or in areas of poor visibility. They are commonly constructed from corrosion resistant aluminum for strength and durability and feature a concrete cap to make concrete pour installations easier.
Multiple fixtures can be daisy-chained off one circuit which allows for extensive installation in larger areas. Featured in a number of different colors and finishes, typically white, black, bronze, or aluminum, a LED step light is suitable for any area or décor. The average life of the LED bulb within the unit is 60,000 hours, which makes it a long-term unit needing very little maintenance. The bulbs burn cool, but bright, making them safe and practical. They are capable of providing light up to a 5 feet radius.
This type of lighting has a number of applications both in the home and in larger, commercial premises.
In the home, step lighting is very useful for providing illumination for stairwells where soft light at night time is needed. In a home with younger children, rather than leave a ceiling light on all night, which is not energy efficient, by installing some step lights, you can make sure that if your kids need to use the stairs at night, they are able to do so safely and without waking the rest of the household up.
These lights are also useful for areas such as a cellar staircase which might remain dark even in the daytime. Another potential use in the domestic arena is for outside lighting. Should your home have outdoor steps, recessed lighting is invaluable for aiding passage at night time. It removes the need for more visible lighting near the steps, yet still allows your family and guests to move around your property without the risk of accident. After all, you wouldn’t want your beloved mother in law to inadvertently to fall into the pond after stumbling on an unlit step.
But it is generally in commercial premises that this type of lighting is more prevalent. Almost any large building with public access will feature LED step lights on all staircases. At night, when the main lighting system is off, residual lighting is still very important, both from a security perspective and a safety one.
When a building is empty, the security personnel still need to be able to access all areas safely. Even if the lighting is reduced to the bare minimum, the staircases still need to be well lit and LED step lighting fulfills the criteria perfectly.
Cinemas are another great example of step lights in action. Imagine how difficult it would be if the steps inside a cinema screen had no lighting. Once the main screen lights go down, darkness usually prevails but for the light from the film. If you need to leave your seat for any reason during the feature showing, you would run into serious difficulties without LED step lighting showing you the way. Your popcorn would probably make a spectacular exit all over some poor unfortunate soul sitting beside the steps. With LED step lights illuminating the way, you can easily see where you are going and thus end up back in your seat, safe and sound, ready to catch the end of the feature film with your bucket of popcorn intact.
Sports centers also feature step lighting for exactly the same reasons.
These are just a few of the many examples of how LED step lights have both a practical and a safety application in homes and commercial premises.
