LED Trailer Lights: Ideal lights for your Trailer

by Rachel on June 29, 2010

LED trailer lights are ideal for installing on trailers of all types. LED lights provide faster lighting times and are far more energy efficient than traditional trailer lighting. They are usually 100% waterproof, which is a definite advantage. LED trailer tail lights last far longer and therefore do not require regular replacement, which can be difficult and irritating with regular lights. Trailer tail lights can often be housed inside units that are fiddly to access, so it is preferable if the bulbs do not need replacing very often.

LED lights for trailers are far brighter than traditional incandescent bulbs, which is another great reason to change your existing trailer lighting for LED lights. The brighter the trailer light, the more visible you are to other road using traffic. If people can see you, they are less likely to have a collision with you, which is always a bonus!

LED trailer lights are suitable for trailers of all sizes. They offer right and left multi function tail, brake, marker, and license plate illumination. Red LED’s are suitable for tail, brake, and marker lighting, whereas white LED’s are designed for license plate lighting.

The light units are completely sealed and fully submersible, which makes them ideal for boat trailers as well as normal trailer usage. LED lights designed for trailers come with all the necessary stainless steel hardware needed for fitting on your trailer, including nuts, flat washers and lock washers. Installation and wiring kits are usually available separately.

LED boat trailer lights offer a significant advantage over regular boat trailer lights because they are resistant to breakage when the trailer is submerged in cold water. Traditional bulbs have a tendency to shatter when they get hot during usage and then meet the cold water. If you have to keep replacing traditional incandescent bulbs every time you transport your boat in and out of the water, it will cost you a fortune. So make sure you switch to LED lights and save yourself a significant amount of money.

As well as boat trailers, LED lighting can be used for many different types of trailers. Horse trailers and farm equipment all require lighting to be legal when using public roads and lighting is also necessary when a trailer is used at night.

A magnetic LED trailer light kit can also be bought from some manufacturers. These can be useful if a temporary installation is required. If you need to borrow a trailer and it has no lighting installed, magnetic trailer lights are ideal for a quick lighting fix. The LED lights have a magnetic base for easy attachment to the trailer. Magnetic LED lights can easily be attached to farm equipment to replace broken lights—which are a fact of life when using farm machinery.

LED lights can also be fitted to trailer boards for easy substitution between vehicles. If you need to use a different trailer temporarily, you can easily attach a trailer board, complete with an LED lighting kit, to your vehicle, thus ensuring that you are legal and safe for driving.
