Everybody has a different taste in style when it comes to decorating. Some like rustic designs while others like colonial or a style that is a combination of many styles. If you are interested in giving your home exterior a look that resembles a colonial style than you might be interested in Mexican outdoor lighting. Mexico is famous for many of it's products and you might not expect that lighting is one of them but it really is. Mexican lighting is often made out of brass, tin and other metals sometimes in combination with glass. The most popular type of Mexican outdoor lighting is the Hanging star.
Hanging Star Light
With hanging stars I don't mean the cheaper paper made stars but the ones that are made out of metal. Tin and brass are 2 metals which are frequently used by Mexican craftsman because it is easy to work with and you can make all kinds of shapes and designs with it. We also like it because these metals give the lamp an older, antique/colonial look. They are an excellent addition to a Mexican styled garden or home but you can also just add them to your colonial styled room or garden.
There are different types of hanging start lights, the most popular one is made out of aged tin and has many cutouts in the tin. Because of the cutouts the light will have a sparkling effect on a room like a static stroboscope. Other available designs have less cutouts in the tin but are constructed with clear glass in the design giving it a more relaxed light instead. You can find them in colored glass or white glass but the star design is always the same.
Mexican Wall Mounted Fixtures
When you will visit Mexico and you go in a lighting store than you will see a lot of hanging stars but you will also see typical Mexican wall mounted fixtures. Different materials are used for the production of these lamps. Instead of tin and brass, pewter and oxidated copper are used to give the lamps an colonial look. They were used by richer Mexican who wanted to illuminate the surroundings of their hacienda but now they are primarily an export product. True hand made lamps will cost you quite some money but you can also settle for the cheaper reproductions which you can often buy in cheaper shops in the US. The best way to order yourself Mexican outdoor lighting is by visiting webshops (see bottom) or visit Mexico.
Other Types of Mexican Lighting
Wall fixtures and hanging stars are the authentic lamps from Mexico but these are not the only ones you will find. We know Mexico as a country that uses many colors, produces Tequila and everyone carries a sombrero. You may find theseĀ aspects in many designs like sombrero string lights or neon tequila bottles which you can place in your garden. Colors are also very important and Mexico is famous for it's production of colorful blankets and tiles. You will also find these designs in thee light holders and other types of decoration that is used for lighting.
