Nautical light fixtures are a great way to add some maritime style to your home, either inside or outside. The nautical theme can be found in a huge variety of lighting styles, from sconces and pendants, to bulkhead lights and vanity fixtures. Finishes will vary, but you can usually choose from a variety including green copper, burnished bronze, burnished nickel, textured black, and many others.
Adding some nautical light fixtures to your home is a good way of introducing some coastal tranquility. Like most people, you probably have fond memories of endless days spent at the beach as a child, playing amongst the rocks and pools, or digging in the sand while the waves washed over the shiny pebbles littered along the shoreline. If you imagine those days, you can probably still smell the salt in the air as the gulls caw noisily from high up in the sky, their beady eyes firmly fixed on your ham sandwiches.
The seaside is a magical place and by adding a few nautical lighting fixtures to your home you have a great way of rekindling the happy memories of days gone by. If you prefer lighting fixtures with a little more originality, you will be able to find some real gems to compliment your coastal décor scheme.
A seashell lamp or some sea grass woven lampshades are a great decorative idea. Another interesting idea is to find a lamp with a hollow glass base that you can fill with pebbles and shells collected from foraging excursions to the coast. It is a great project to give to the children—ask them to collect the most unusual shells and pebbles they can find, and then drop them into the lamp.
Masculine rooms, for example a study or a cozy den, can gain a great deal of style from a nautical theme. Ships and boats have always been a traditionally masculine environment and decorating a study with a nautical theme is a wonderful plan. Imagine how stylish the room would look with some burnished copper lanterns on the wall, or a nautical pendant ceiling light with a solid brass desk lamp. If you hang some nautical themed paintings of ships and boats on the walls, you could almost imagine you were lucky enough to be in the Captain’s cabin on some ancient sea vessel.
Another great place to use a nautical light fixture is actually on a boat. Many people choose to live on houseboats as opposed to regular houses, so what better way to make the most of such a wonderful abode than decorate your vessel in keeping with the nautical theme. A nautical lighting scheme looks wonderful in situ on a boat and is entirely complementary with life on the water, whether you are moored on a canal somewhere, or you are lucky enough to own a yacht somewhere exotic like The Bahamas.
Whichever room of your house or boat you choose to decorate, using nautical light fixtures is a great way of adding some coastal style to your home.
