Outdoor Garden Lights

Outdoor garden lights have come a long way since the days of gas lanterns and bright moonlight. These days, you can choose from a variety of different types of garden lights, including solar powered lighting and submersible pond lights. You can create a feeling of soft, gentle ambiance, or you can turn your garden into an extravaganza of light and color to rival Times Square on New Years Eve.

A garden at its best should be an extension of your interior living space. It should reflect your personal taste and allow you to maximize the times when the weather is kind and you can enjoy spending evenings outside. If you have spent time and money creating a space to enjoy, you need to work out a great lighting scheme so you can make the most of your garden.

If you have a patio, decking area, or gazebo, you can use lights to great effect to allow you to enjoy alfresco dining on warm, summer evenings. There are lots of lighting solutions for seating and dining areas. Lighting can be decorative as well as functional. Why not try some plug and play lights: using a weatherproof external socket, you can plug in this type of lighting and leave it for the evening, or even the entire summer. In winter, unplug and then store away. For the ultimate in simplicity, use outdoor solar garden lights and bypass the need for an expensive electrician.

LED lighting in the form of decorative fake foliage balls or ornamental planters look stunning as feature lights on decking or patios. Not only do they provide ambient lighting, they are also very decorative. Solar powered table lamps are also a great idea for outdoor garden light for dining parties.

In-ground up lighters can be used to spot light various features in your garden. If you have some particularly attractive shrubs or trees, why not make a focal point of them using lighting. You can use LED floodlights for larger areas, or small spot lights for more subtle lighting effects.

Submersible lights are great for ponds and water features. Light and water work together particularly well at night and by mixing and matching your lighting, you can create some stunning effects. Rock lights can be placed around water features. Spike and low-level lighting can achieve similar effects.

Step lights are useful to illuminate paths and areas where safety might be an issue, for example around water features and changes in gradient. Lanterns strategically placed on walls or bollards can also provide excellent lighting for pathways and driveways.

Solar powered lighting is ideal for when the electricity supply is unavailable or difficult to access.

There are many choices of outdoor garden lighting available. Once you have made sure all key areas are sufficiently illuminated, you can even choose some fun novelty outdoo garden lights. Why not place a few illuminated Santa figures in your garden at Christmas time, or maybe a couple of solar powered butterfly or dragonfly garden lights—something your children will adore seeing at nighttime!
