Outdoor patio lights have become an increasingly popular commodity. Over the recent years the designs, styles, shapes, sizes, and colors of patio lights has changed dramatically. Not only have these outdoor lights taken on a myriad of different looks, the technology has changed as well. Long gone are the days when consumers had little choices in patio lighting, aside from the lighted owl string lights. Today electricity, batteries, or solar energy can power patio lights. Patio lights can be multipurpose and energy conscious.
The need for patio lighting has come in response to the rapidly increasing popularity of outdoor patios themselves. Over the past few decades, outdoor patios have become a multimillion dollar industry. Many new home builders include elaborate backyard patios that include virtual outdoor kitchens and living spaces. These elegant adaptations to traditional home designs has contributed to the expansion of the outdoor patio lights industry itself.
Outdoor patio lights have become much easier to install with the invention of solar power. Solar patio lights have removed the need to install transformers and wires. This not only cuts down on electrical energy costs, it removes the need for extensive labor that was previously done by a licensed electrician. Solar patio lights can be self-contained or run by a fixed solar panel. These panels are formally known as photovoltaic cells. They can run an entire system of solar lights. The disadvantage of a photovoltaic system or grid is that the lights themselves are often attached by wire. However, self-contained solar lights with individual batteries vary greatly in quality.
Patio lighting can take on an inconspicuous role too. They can be disguised as rocks in the backyard that light a stony path, or they can come in the shapes of other commonly seen objects. Many patio lights come in the form of some common backyard animals such as squirrels or bunny rabbits. Some of these lights are used to illuminate a walkway, while others provide accent lighting for shrubbery, plants, and trees. Patio umbrella lights direct a soft circular beam of soft light downward. Patio string lights remain a popular choice for consumers, especially among campers. These old standards can still be found adorning the awnings of camping trailers and motor homes.
As the technology for lighting the backyard patio changes, these nice additions to a
lmost any home are becoming much more affordable for the average person. Several companies that manufacture outdoor lighting have come out with several different lines of patio lights. This means that just about any homeowner can afford to light their patios. Whether it be garden lights, patio lights, lights that hang or lights that sticking to the ground, there are many choices for the consumer when it comes to outdoor patio lighting. The only downfall encompassing this expansive industry may be the poorer quality and durability of some of the more inexpensive solar lights. However, as time goes on outdoor patio lighting will likely remain one of the most innovative industries in outdoor home decoration products.
