It is important to have lights in to your garage in order to create a safe workspace but it will also be a good idea to install outside garage lights. There are various reasons why you want to install lights on the outside of your garage but the main reasons are probably that you want to increase safety around the house or increase visionary near your garage. There are various garage lighting fixtures that you can use to mount on the wall of your garage so let's have a look at your options.
If you want to install an outdoor lighting fixture that produces a lot of light than your best option will be to mount one or two spotlights on the outside of your garage. Nowadays most spotlights use LED light technology because they are more efficient and last longer than any other bulb. It is important to look at the amount of LED lights installed in the spotlight because more LED lights will produce more light. 
You can either choose between solar powered spotlights or low voltage spotlights. If your garage is faced to the sun you can consider placing solar spotlights because it will be easier to install and you will safe electricity too. If your garage is not receiving any sunlight than voltage lighting might be a better option. It will also be dependent on the use of the light. If you want to have the light on the entire night than voltage lighting is the better option. If you want to use it as a security light that only works when it detects motion than solar powered spotlights are an excellent option.
If you want to use your outside garage lights as a security light than it would be wise to connect a motion detector to it, or buy a spotlight with an integrated spotlight. A motion detector is a very good way to scare away burglars because every time someone approaches, the spotlight will start to emit a very bright light. When working with motion detectors you want to be able to adjust the sensitivity of the detector. This is especially useful when you live near a busy pedestrian road that triggers your light every time someone walks by.
If you want to install an outside garage light because you want to illuminate a certain area permanently than spotlights are not really necessary. Spotlights are great security lights but they can become annoying when you want to use them in another way. Other options you could consider are wall sconces or lanterns that have a strong bulb or LED light accommodated.
Installing the garage light is not really a big deal and will probably take you an hour or less. If you choose a solar garage light than all you have to do is mount it to your garage wall and mount the collector in a way that it faces the sun. If you want to install a low voltage garage light than you should mount it on a spot nearest to the circuit box because you don't want to use too much wires. Out of safety precautions it is safest to switch off electricity completely when you start working with it. You don't want to mount your outside garage lights when it starts to get dark so be sure to start early.
