Solar Deck Post Lights

by on June 15, 2010

You did probably not spend thousands of dollars on your deck for not sitting on it when it gets dark. If you have a deck than that is a place which is enjoyable to sit on during summer when the evenings are long and hot. Off course you want to be able to read a book or play a game and that is why you want to install deck lights. If you want the lights to fit the design of your deck and you don't want to use any additional wall lanterns or sconces than solar deck post lights are easy to use and they will provide you with substantial lighting, enough for reading a book.

Off course there are more reasons why you want to install solar deck post lights. You just might want to increase security around your house because a house that is not well lit might attract uninvited visitors. Research has proven that houses with outdoor lighting fixtures installed have less chance on burglary.

Besides practical and security reasons you might just want to install solar deck post lighting because of the aesthetic look. Soft glowing accent lighting is a pleasure for the eyes to watch at and it will showcase it's surroundings creating an unique and beautiful sight. Post lights can be placed on the posts already installed on your deck which makes them look like they are one with the design. This will look much better than installing separate light fixtures like wall sconces, lanterns or other bright light fixtures.

Advantages of Deck Post Solar Lights

There are a few advantages on using solar post lights on your deck instead of using low voltage lighting. The easy installation process is probably the biggest advantage because you don't have to work with wires or electricity. Most deck post lights come in different sizes and can be placed on top of your post which will make them look like they have always been there.

Another advantage is that they will only require a little bit of sunlight in order to provide you with soft glowing accent lighting. Because the light intensity of the solar deck post lights is rather low they will only need a little bit of sunlight to charge their batteries. Because you use sunlight as an energy source you will also save money on your electricity bill which is yet another nice advantage.

You can find solar deck lights in most lighting shops but you will notice there is a large variation in price. You want to consider if you want to invest in your deck and buy higher quality lights or if you want to buy cheaper lights because you are on a budget. The problem with cheaper lights is that they don't provide you the same quality light and they might break down sooner. Although it might look like a cheaper option, higher quality deck lights will live longer and eventually be cheaper.

There is a large variety in available designs and you are able to find them in all colors that you need. Popular designs are classic white, modern brown or wooden deck post solar lights.
