A fairy light is the English name for string lights and Christmas lights. The first one was mad in 1882 and since than they involved in to a specific way of lighting to use on parties, accent lighting and holidays like Christmas. Back than ordinary bulbs were used and which would frequently go off when one lamp was broken but this all changed with the introduction of LED technology. LED lights are far more efficient than ordinary bulbs and the lights will keep burning when one light is broken. The original white string lights were called white fairy lights because the had the resemblance of small fairies. The sprinkling light they emit makes us think of small fairies dancing in the air.
White fairy lights are frequently used on themed parties like a fairy party (off course). They emit a sprinkling light which is very nice to look at and that is why we use them for many more occasions than parties alone. People like to use them as window decoration because you can hang them easily on your window. You can also use them as accent lighting when the days start to get longer again.
Still the most popular time to use them is with Christmas. We like to use them as decoration to hang in our Christmas tree but we also like to use them outside. Using them outside might bring be a problem if you want to use low voltage lighting but luckily you can also decide to use fairy lights that are battery operated. Because of the efficiency of the LED lights, high quality white fairy lights will keep up burning for more than 100 hours on 2 Duracell batteries.
Batteries allow you to easily hang your fairy lights outside on every location in your garden and safes you the struggle to connect them to an electricity network. Make sure to use high quality batteries because otherwise you will keep replacing the batteries every other day. You should also keep in mind the difference between fairy string lights and fairy rope lights, rope lights are also a very popular outdoor lighting fixture but the use much more batteries compared to string lights. Also consider that the longer the string light is the more battery power it is going to need.
Off course you can also use battery rechargeable fairy lights in your home interior. You can even hang them on your wall with the use of a simple staple gun. Just be sure not to stumble a staple in to the wire of the string lights as this can result in fire or electric shock.
