Consider a Wrought Iron Chandelier For a Timeless Lighting Fixture

by Rachel on July 3, 2010

A wrought iron chandelier can come in a variety of designs and is a timeless light fitting that is at home in both a traditional and contemporary setting.

The designs range from simple 3 light versions using mock candles, to 18+ light versions suitable for larger rooms. This design of chandelier light fitting will look great in many different types of homes, from farmhouses to castles, hotels, modern apartments and manor houses, all over the world. No matter what the location, a wrought iron chandelier makes a stunning centerpiece.

Black wrought iron chandeliers represent a move away from many of the fancy, elegant designs of modern times. Wrought iron is a material that has been traditionally used in lighting and home wares for centuries. In years gone by, the village blacksmith would have created pieces for the home in his workshop. Lights would have been a simple affair, designed for function rather than decoration. Today, lighting is seen as decorative, but wrought iron lighting can still be very simple in design.

However, it can also be worked to produce some stunningly intricate designs of great complexity. Some light fittings use crystals in conjunction with candle lamps to great effect. The light refracts from the crystals producing some beautiful shimmering color and light patterns. The lights on the wrought iron crystal chandelier make the dark iron appear even richer in color.

If you want to change the look of your room, but don’t want the expense of replacing the furniture or floor coverings, then replacing the light fittings is a simple way of giving the room a make-over. A wrought iron candle chandelier is a great way to add some flair to your room, without spending a fortune.

Chandeliers can be bought with either up lights or down lights. Using down lights on a chandelier is the best way to spot light a table. Alternatively, if you choose a chandelier with up lights, you can achieve a more diffused lighting effect where the light will bounce off the walls and ceiling to create a warm glow. This looks very attractive and if you add shades to the lights on your iron chandelier, you can filter the light further for an even more subtle effect.

Wrought iron light fittings make an excellent centerpiece for a gothic themed room. If you fancy a dining room that owes its inspiration to Transylvania rather than Home Depot, why not paint the walls blood red and hang a large iron chandelier as the centerpiece above your dining table. Add some silver tableware, a few flickering candles, and your guests will think they have been invited to Castle Dracula for a feast!

A black wrought iron chandelier can look wonderful in a huge farmhouse kitchen. The black metal of the light fitting will look beautiful with the warmth of an old fashioned range in the background. The traditional décor of a period home would also suit the simple yet classic charm of a wrought iron light fitting.
